Frequently Asked Questions About Stained Glass Below are some of the questions we are frequently asked regarding Architectural Stained Glass. We have included questions we receive from architects, builders and commercial customers. If you don't find what you are looking for here, please give us a call at (757) 583-5864 or send us an email. Q: Can I order stained glass from you online or from a catalog? A: No. We design and install custom, made-to-fit stained glass windows that are unique to each application. Each of our works is an individual work of art. We prefer to work closely with you to design the piece that will best meet your needs and provide the exact impact to your room, home or business. You can also visit our NEW SHOWROOM at 1209 Baker Rd., Suite 403, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. Q: Do I have to remove my current window to install a stained glass window? A: All of our windows are custom-fitted to your current window, transom or sidelight. Our stained glass windows install against your current window, providing an additional layer of insulation and protection, while still allowing the beauty of stained glass to shine through. There is no need to remove your window to have the beauty of stained glass in your home. In fact, many of our customers specifically choose stained glass to provide increased privacy for doors and windows, allowing light to come through, with or without color, while maintaining privacy. Q: Can you make a stained glass window from a painting or photograph? A: Yes, it's something we do quite frequently. One of the more popular stained glass windows we create is to use images from one or more photographs to recreate a magical or special moment in glass. Whether it's a photograph of a bird filmed on vacation, or a motorcycle parked in front of a favorite destination, we can create custom stained glass artwork that forever captures and shares your memories. Q: What types of effects can you create with stained glass? A: Architectural Stained Glass does not have to include color. We use beveled glass, leaded glass, stained glass, etched glass, mirrors and many other effects to create the artwork you envision and describe during our consultations. Many of our works do not use color, but convey warmth and depth through unusual shapes, designs and advanced glass techniques. For more information, give us a call at (757) 583-5864 and we can help you select an effect that is perfect for your needs. Q: How much do custom stained glass windows cost? A: Our work is priced by the square foot and is determined by design details with a wide variety of glass choice. The cost may range from $90 to $165 per square foot. Installation prices are determined by the height from the floor, accessibility, fixture materials, location and how the work is trimmed. Installation costs start at $45. Please give us a call to discuss your needs so we can give you an accurate cost estimate, (757) 583-5864. Questions from Architects, Builders and Commercial Customers Q: Can you supply designs in CAD? A: Yes. We create CAD drawings of all of our projects and can make the electronic files available for use in your plans. Q: What is the lead time required for a new construction project? A: It depends somewhat on the size of the project -- one window or several, a highly customized door, etc. However, we do all our own work and can give you an accurate estimate once we know the scope of the project. Q: Where and how do architects and builders use your glass solutions? A: Stained, beveled and leaded glass can be used in dozens of applications and environments. Examples include:
Q: Why do builders and architects select artistic glass? A: The primary reasons are to add a custom feature, make a dramatic statement, privacy, elegance, curb appeal, to protect furnishings or carpet from direct sunlight and as artwork, when mounted in a light box for a wall application. Q: What are some advantages of insulated leaded glass windows? A: We can insulate almost any size window using tempered glass on both sides of the leaded glass panel with an inset black butyl seal. This is often used to create triple-glazed insulated units, to turn existing single-glazed windows into insulated units; to help support fragile antique windows, to provide decorative windows for wine cellars, etc. Advantages of insulated leaded glass windows include:
